Starting today, local residents may forget the poor monthly experience of lining up to pay for their public service bills.
Instead, they just need a click to register as a member with a government-sponsored electronic payment system on the website ww.962233.com, which will automatically transfer the due fees from their authorized bank accounts to the public service providers, the Shanghai Morning Post reported.
Shanghai Fufeitong Information Service Co Ltd, operator of the e-payment project, signed a deal with Shanghai Electric Power Co Ltd yesterday to include electricity bills into its business scope.
Up till now, the payment system has established transfer partnership with all public services ranging from water to electricity, gas, landline phone and mobile telecom.
Bankcard users of five banks are currently accessible to the payment system: Pudong Development Bank, Bank of Shanghai, China Merchants Bank, China Minsheng Bank and Bank of Communications.
Other banks reportedly soon to join the e-pay platform include China Construction Bank, Bank of China, Huaxia Bank and Guangdong Development Bank.
Residents don't pay extra charges for use of the payment system.
