Chinese tourists spend up to US$987 per capita on shopping overseas, the
highest in the world, according to a latest survey by ACNielsen and Tax Free
World Association (TFWA) of 1,500 consumers from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou
who have toured abroad for the last half a year, today's Oriental Morning Post
reported.
Among them, Shanghai travelers are the biggest spenders, with
average shopping bills of U$1,781 in Europe.
The number of Chinese traveling
overseas hit 29 million last year, up 43 percent from a year
earlier.
Although Chinese total tourism expenditures for per trip rank second
in the world, next only to Japan, shopping, one third of the total travel cost,
ranks China No.1 worldwide.
