The Bund, the magnetic levitation train, and the Formula One circuit have
been voted by Shanghai people as the top three favorite tourist sites in a
latest citywide poll, today's Youth Daily newspaper revealed. This is the
Shanghai part of a nationwide tourist site poll organized by the Chinese
National Geography magazine. The Youth Daily, the only authorized media to
conduct the local voting, said it has received more than 3,000 votes since it
published the ballots at the end of April. The 21 sites winning high
popularity include traditional sites such as the Yu Garden, Zhujiajiao town and
the Shanghai Old Town shopping street and new recreation venues such as
Xintiandi recreation center, Pudong International Airport, Daning Green Park,
the maglev train and the F1 track. What's most impressive is that the
Shanghai Expo Park, which is still under construction, has earned similar high
voting to the Bund, according to Wang Xiangcai, vice secretary general of
Shanghai Tourist Industry Association. The park was voted as "the site
people are most longing for" with the highest voting of 2,560 ballots. Wang
explained this as a reflection of young people's preference for modern
venues. Modern, fashionable and changeable are Shanghai's key
characteristics, he noted.
