Shanghai's first package tour offer to the United Kingdom around July 20 has
proved to be a hit in the market, today's Youth Post reported.
Tom Wright,
CEO of the British Tourism Authority (BTA), flew to Shanghai today to promote
the tour.
The initial tour will start from both Shanghai and Beijing
spontaneously, with no more than 50 people allowed on each of the two tours,
according to the BTA. The eight-day, six-night tour will cost nearly 15,000 yuan
(US$1,800).
By yesterday, far more than the 50 people quota had signed up for
the tour with agents Shanghai China Travel Service, Shanghai China International
Travel Service Co Ltd and Shanghai China Youth Travel Service Tour Corporation.
According to the National Tourism Administration, as of July 15 this year,
Chinese travel agencies are allowed to organize tours to the UK, Chile and
Jamaica. The UK is the last country in the European Union to open up to Chinese
tourists, meaning that they are now permitted to travel to all of the European
countries.
