German Airlines Lufthansa will increase its investment in Shanghai to win
more local passengers, claimed the vice-president from the Sales & Marketing
Department of the Airlines, it was reported in today's Oriental Morning
Post. In the past five years, Lufthansa has increased its weekly flights from
five to 14. Its passenger flow in the local market has soared by 17
percent from this January to May, compared with the previous year. "It's time
to further strengthen our investment in the local airlines market to improve our
flight schedules and perfect services," said the vice-president. Lufthansa
has been active in its development in China since it established a freight
company in cooperation with the Hongqiao International Airport and the JHJ
International Transportation Co Ltd as early as 1999. As well, the German
Airlines, in cooperation with China Eastern Airlines, has developed two airline
food factories in the Hongqiao area and the Pudong District. The company
opened a new customer service center in Shanghai this January. "Besides
investments in airline services, we are focusing on other relevant industries
such as freight, travel, logistics, airplane maintenance and information
technology support, " said the vice-president.
