The recent sweltering weather has encouraged local travelers to seek destinations that beat the heat, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
As of this week, local travel agencies began to target itineraries to mountain and seaside cities such as Qingdao, Weihai and Dalian.
Sales of these tours, such as trips to the Moganshan and Yandangshan mountains, are expected to reach their peak in two weeks, said Wang Yujia, office director with the Shanghai Dazhong International Travel Service Co.
As June is usually the off-season for travelers, two-day travel costs to such destinations are ranging from only 260 to 370 yuan (US$31-US$44), the director pointed out, adding that airfares will increase next month.
Hainan tours, popular in winter, are proving less eye-catching during the summer months.
