Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines, the country's third largest carrier,
will operate a total of 726 extra flights during the Spring Festival peak
period, with 158 being international, 530 Mainland and 38 Hong Kong and Macau
flights.
The additional flights are mainly for such tourist destinations as
China's Yunnan Province and South East Asian countries.
"Thanks to our great
increase in capacity of recent years, our normal flight-load can roughly meet
the demand for the Spring Festival peak travel period. So we add only a few
flights before the holiday, when migrant workers and students form a major part
of the passengers, while most of our added and chartered flights will be
operated after the holiday to meet the growing demand by tourists," explained a
spokesman with the planning department of China Eastern Airlines.
