Jiuzhaigou of China's Sichuan Province and France have become the most
popular destinations for Chinese people during the weeklong National Day holiday
starting from October 1, according to a survey of 4,000 Ctrip members
yesterday. Compared with last year, fewer Chinese have travel plans this
holiday. Nearly 60 percent of Ctrip members said they would travel during the
National Day holiday, down 15 percent from last year. Around 9.3 percent will
not travel and the rest are unsure. Jiuzhaigou is the hottest destination,
with 23.3 percent of interviewees planning to go there, followed by Sanya (16.4
percent), Lijiang (15.6 percent) and Tibet ranked as fourth. Some 78 percent
of those who want to travel opted for domestic tours, with 43 percent planning
long tours. Self-organized tours are the more attractive, with 73.4 percent
traveling by themselves. Nearly 22 percent of travelers will go overseas for
the holiday, with 14 percent abroad and 8 percent to Hong Kong and Macau.
Leisure tours to Southeast Asian Island, including the Maldives, Phuket, Phi
Phi and Sabah Islands, are proving very popular. Europe is another hotspot, with
34.3 percent of those who want to go overseas planning to go there. France is
the top option in European tours, with nearly 30 percent expecting to go,
followed by Switzerland, Greece and Italy.
