Locals relaxed about golden week travel plans

Local residents appear calm and unhurried in planning their trips for the
coming week-long Labor Day holiday, the Xinmin Evening News reported
today.
According to local travel agencies, a small number of residents
have booked package tours during the Labor Day holiday, while in previous years
some popular travel itineraries were booked up in early
April.
Shanghainese have become more sensible and mature about holiday
travel, said an industry analyst.
The simplification of visa procedures
at the end of last year was cited as another reason why locals are booking tours
later than in previous years, the analyst said. Residents with passports only
need to book a week in advance, he added.
The peak local booking period
for both domestic and overseas tours over the Labor Day holiday is expected to
come after mid April, according to some local travel agencies.
The US-led
war in Iraq might cast a shadow over the overseas tourism market this year, the
analyst said.
