A growing number of local tourists went traveling in the neighboring
Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces over the past weekend thanks to the end of
SARS. The Shanghai Dazhong International Travel Service recently kicked off
20 travel itineraries in Jinagsu and Zhejiang provinces, organizing 19 package
tours over the past weekend, involving more than 1,000 tourists. More than
4,000 people from 80 package tours have planned to go travel this month,
according to Dazhong. "We are offering 30 percent off on all the tours on July
8," said the spokesman with Dazhong. The Spring International Travel Services
has organized 1,250 people to travel outside of the city over the past weekend,
with more than 400 tourists going to Yangzhou. "We cut the tour prices by an
average of 20 percent to attract travelers," said the spokesman with Spring
International Travel Services. The first international travel group, made up
of 17 French students pursuing the Master Degree of Business Administration,
came to Shanghai last Saturday after the end of SARS. The Shanghai
Sightseeing Bus Center has received more than 12,900 tourists on July 5 and
6,with watertowns such as Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Xitang and Wuzhen gaining
popularity. The center will offer 12 to 72 percent of discounts on 49 travel
itineraries on July 12, 13, 19 and 20, with each itinerary allowed to take
90-5,000 tourists.
