Yellow Mountain lures local tourists
9/7/2003 16:58
Travel service operators of Yellow Mountain, in east China's Anhui
Province, are offering cheaper charges to attract local travelers and boost the
tourism of the world-known scenic venue after SARS, today's Shanghai Morning
Post reported. Some 10-hour bus ride away from Yellow Mountain, Shanghai has
been one of the key tourist sources of the scenic zone. Part of the promotion
is the up to 30-percent discounts for the entrance tickets to the scenic
mountain area and cable car fees as well as accommodation at the nearby hotels,
according to a tourism promotion delegation of Yellow Mountain that came to
Shanghai yesterday to trumpet the tourism service there. The price cut is
effective in dragging down the prices of package tours to the mountain offered
by local travel agencies. For example, a three-day bus tour provided by
Shanghai Dazhong International Travel Service is now priced at 450 yuan (US$54),
220 yuan, or 30 percent, off from the original charge. Besides the lowered
fees, tourism manager of Yellow Mountain has also announced other favorable
policies. Teachers and students, for example, can enjoy half prices for
admission fees before September, while journalists and medical staffs will take
a tour around the mountain without admission fees before October as a reward to
their efforts in the anti-SARS fight.
