Hong Kong and Macau tour heating up
23/7/2003 16:59

Locals who want to travel to Hong Kong and Macau this month have to wait, as the 30 percent of discount offered on the tour has attracted many local tourists to go there, eastday.com reported today.
Shanghai China International Travel Service, Shanghai China Travel Service Group, Shanghai China Youth Travel Service and Shanghai Jinjiang Tourist Ltd, four leading travel agencies in the city, will organize package tours of up to 4,000 people to Hong Kong and Macau from July 11 to the end of the month, according to statistics.
Fifty to eighty percent of package tours to Hong Kong and Macau next month have been booked up, according to Shanghai China International Travel Service, Shanghai China Youth Travel Service and Shanghai Jinjiang Tourist Ltd.
The large price cuts are cited as the main reason for the popularity of the tours to Hong Kong and Macau, said an industry analyst.
After the National Tourism Administration announced to relaunch overseas tours on July 10, the Hong Kong tourism administration joined hands with the four local travel agencies to offer large discounts to attract tourists, with five-day tour to Hong Kong and Macau priced only at 2,000 yuan (US$241) per person and 3,600 yuan for two persons to Hong Kong.
Moreover, the sharp reduction of scheduled flights to Hong Kong from nearly 20 to 10 a day after the SARS outbreak has also heated up the tours, according to China Eastern Airlines and Dragon Air.
The complete recovery of the tours to Hong Kong and Macau is expected during the week-long National Day holiday, when more flights will be added a day, said an industry analyst.
