Travel agencies in Beijing have cooperated with overseas travel institutes
and air-carriers to kick off a series of travel itineraries this summer, with
tours to ocean-linked destinations proving very popular, the Beijing Youth Post
reported today. "We will focus on promoting tours to resort islands, such as
six itineraries to Malaysian islands in cooperation with travel groups in
Malaysia," said the spokesman with the Marketing Department of China Travel
International Investment Hong Kong Ltd. Penang, Langkawi and Kota Kinabaru
have generated strong interest from the public, with the newly-unearthed Redang
Island tour proving very popular, the spokesman said. The Malaysia Airlines
will hold a series of promotions soon to boost the tourism market, with price
for five-day tour to Penang down to 3,480 yuan (US$419), six-day tour to Kota
Kinabaru reaching 4,500 yuan, down more than 500 yuan from a year before.
Large price cuts are also offered on tours to Indonesia's Bali Island and
Maldives, and five-day tour to Maldives with five-star hotel accommodation is
priced only at 7,780 yuan, down more than 2,000 yuan from the beginning of the
year. Package tours from Shanghai to Hong Kong via popular SuperStar Leo,
the largest luxury cruise ship in the Asia Pacific, suspended due to the SARS
outbreak, will be relaunched at the end of the month.
