Locals travel before Spring Festival
16/12/2003 17:21
With travel costs expected to soar in the coming Spring Festival, many
local residents are opting to travel this month, the Shanghai Morning Post
reported today. According to local travel agencies, prices of the five-day
(four-night) tour to the Philippines will rise from 4,280 yuan (US$516) to 4,880
yuan during the week-long Spring Festival holiday, and a five-day tour to the
Maldives will increase from 7,700 yuan to 12,800 yuan. Although many travel
agencies haven't released their final tour prices yet, around a 1,000 yuan
increase is normal, said an industry analyst. Many Shanghai residents are
choosing to travel before the price increase, with the package tours to the
Southeast Asian market currently proving very popular. Package tours to the
Philippines in early December have been fully booked, said a spokesman with the
Shanghai China Travel Service. The tours to the Maldives in many local
travel agencies are also booked up. With air-carriers successively announcing
their airfare increases for the Spring Festival holiday, a tourism peak is
expected to arrive before mid January next year, the analyst
said.
