Holiday overseas tours popular
24/12/2003 17:22

A growing number of local travelers have signed up for overseas tours in the approaching Spring Festival holiday, despite the hefty price increases, the Labor Post reported today.
"All the package tours to Australia and Thailand have been booked up, with only a few vacancies available for South Korea and Malaysia tours", said Wang Fang, manager with the outbound department of the Jinjiang Tours Ltd.
Casual tours to tropic islands become hot properties in the city, such as to Maldives, Langkawi and Saba, Wang said. "Sales are also hot for the ten-day tour to Europe, priced at 15,000 yuan, up 2,000 yuan from usual," she added.
The prices of overseas tours have increased by nearly 30 percent, or 1,000 yuan (US$120) on average.
Thanks to the improving living standard, spending the Chinese traditional holiday abroad becomes a fashion for Shanghaiese.
Australia and Southeast Asia countries are the most popular travel destinations in the coming Spring Festival holiday, according to local travel agencies.
Many local tourists booked overseas package tours for the Spring Festival holiday one and a half month in advance.
