Carriers ready for travel rush
6/1/2004 17:23

Preparing sufficient fleets and adequate flights, air carriers across the country are ready for the upcoming Spring Travel peak period starting from tomorrow, an senior official with the nation's air industry watchdog said, cited by today's China Youth Daily.
"So far, all air companies have drafted new schedules to meet the soaring transport demand of the spring rush and prepared standby flying capability in case of emergencies," said Li Jun, vice director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
CAAC published the national spring air schedule yesterday, under which 4,209 flights will be added from January 19 to 31, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the total added for the 40-day spring rush period.
It expects large volumes of air passengers to mainly flock in big cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Harbin and Kunming.
Two Shanghai-based airline companies announced the schedules late last month.
China Eastern Airlines Co Ltd will increase its domestic flights to a total 1,200 from January 7 to February 15 and add overseas service to cope with the city's growing out-bound travelers.
Shanghai Airlines Co Ltd will add 100 flights during the weeklong Spring Festival holiday from February 22 to 28. It will increase 10 flights to Macau to help Taiwanese in Shanghai to go home.
