The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the domestic
aviation watchdog, has made full preparations for the coming Spring Festival
peak travel period starting tomorrow, eastday.com reported today. To date,
the CAAC has approved a total of 7,434 added, chartered and temporary scheduled
flights during the Spring Festival peak travel period, with nearly 185
additional flights every day on average. During the weeklong holiday from
January 22 to 28, more than 323 scheduled flights will be added every day on
average. Among the 7,434 scheduled flights, 7,128 are domestic flights and
the remaining 306 are bound to Hong Kong and Macau. Domestic flights are
mainly to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Haikou, Shanghai, Wenzhou, Xiamen, Wuyishan
Mountain, Chengdu., Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang and Xi'an. The number of
civil aviation passengers will soar during the Spring Festival peak travel
period this year, said the spokesman with the CAAC. Residents in ten Chinese
cities such as Beijing and Shanghai were allowed to travel in Hong Kong and
Macau individually since last year, fueling the boom in the two travel markets,
the spokesman pointed out. "We will ensure the aviation safety, and all the
civil aviation units are required to conduct a complete safety inspection, with
all the unqualified planes and facilities banned to put into operation," he
stressed, adding that their aviation staff will receive special education to
react to the complicated weather changes.
