Cheap tickets offered on routes from Qingdao to Shanghai, Beijing
16/2/2004 17:24

Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines Co Ltd launches a promotion on the routes from Qingdao, capital city of east China's Shandong Province, to Shanghai and to Beijing from February 10 through the end on the month, today's Sina.com reported.
Citing the carrier's Shandong branch, the report said tickets on both routes are slashed to 230 yuan (US$28) during the promotional period, nearly one-fifth of the normal prices of about 1,000 yuan.
The promotion has received hot market reactions, workers with the air company said, as the promotional seats offered so far have been all booked out.
Reasoning for the motive of the promotion, officials in charge of China Eastern Shandong branch's sales department said because it is the slack season for the air industry, the company hopes to boost the business by encouraging more local people to use air service for their weekend travel with the low-price tickets.
But analysts said the promotion is more ambitious and aimed at grasping shares of the travel transport market from train and road services.
Eyeing for China's increasing travelers, the company is obviously cultivating people's taste for air service by lowering the sector's high-end image, they pointed out.
