Hainan tour fees legal

Starting this month on a trial basis, it will be legal for travel
agencies arranging tours to Hainan to charge commission fees from tourist
resorts, hotels, restaurants and other tourism service providers on the
island, according to a new industry regulation published by Hainan's
tourism administration. Under the regulation, which will officially take
effect from May, commission charges could be up to 30 percent of the tickets
to resorts and 40 percent of those to local style shows and
performances. The rates can move within a 10-percent range, the regulation
rules. Hainan government hopes the new commission rule will help restore the
local tourism market, the key revenue source for the island, as rampant
price cuts have seriously hurt its tourism industry,.
