Domestic airfares drop
15/3/2004 17:26

Despite the expectation that a growing number of people will travel in spring, hefty price cuts are being offered on domestic air-tickets, eastday.com reported today.
Further price reductions are being offered on domestic airfares after they declined at the end of last year, said an industry analyst.
Generally 40 or 50 percent discounts are offered on domestic airfares, with many air-tickets even priced at up to 70 percent off.
The airfare from Beijing to Shanghai is only 250 yuan (US$30), much cheaper than the corresponding red ball hard-sleeper ticket price. Although the airfare from Shanghai to Beijing has already fallen to 410 yuan, fewer passengers are taking the route.
"As it is the slow season, many airlines allow us to set airfares lower," said Wang with a local air ticket sales outlet in Ande Road.
Price cuts are offered on airfares from Beijing to other capital cities, such as Shenyang, priced at 200 yuan and to Nanjing priced at 370 yuan.
"If passengers book round-trip tickets, they can enjoy more discounts," said a local air-ticket seller, adding that special offers are provided on some popular air-routes, such as round-trip tickets between Beijing and Dalian priced at 640 yuan, between Beijing and Shenzhen at 1,600 yuan, between Beijing and Guangzhou 1,550 yuan and Between Beijng and Haikou 1,640 yuan.
