Tours to Southeast Asian countries, Hong Kong and Macau were the
targets of frequent complaints by Chinese citizens last year, with Thailand
ranking No.1 on the complaint list and Hong Kong No.2, the China Youth Post
reported today. Some domestic tourists complained that some charges that had
already been collected before the trip were re-collected by local tourist guides
in Thailand. Travelers to Hong Kong often complained that the home appliance
products they bought in the city were of low quality but were sold at high
prices. Last year, complaints for domestic tours accounted for 90 percent of
the total, while those for overseas tours were nine percent. Sixty percent of
the complaints went to travel agencies, 12 percent to restaurants and scenic
spots, four percent to traffic and three percent were aimed at shopping,
according to the National Tourism Administration. For domestic tours,
organizers of ten cities and provinces were most frequent targets of complaint,
including Jiangsu, Guangdong, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi,
Fujian, Shannxi and Hunan Province; for overseas tours, complaints for
organizers of Guangdong, Shanghai, Yunnan, Beijing, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Liaoning,
Jiangsu, Fujian and Guangxi Province amounted to 85 percent of the total.
Complaint compensation last year declined by 50 percent from the previous
year, with most settlements paid by the travel agencies themselves.
