Labor Day price reductions expected on Hong Kong tour

Tour prices to Hong Kong are expected to drop slightly in the coming
Labor Day holiday, compared with the previous year, the Shanghai Morning Post
reported today. Airfares are expected to be 20 percent lower than a year
before, with no large price increases predicted, so the costs to Hong Kong
during this holiday might be the same as now, said Cao Xi, spokesman with the
Hong Kong and Macau department of the Shanghai China Youth Travel Service Tour
Corporation. The four-day luxury package tour to Hong Kong, with four-star
hotels, is nearly 3,300 yuan (US$397.6) and is the best quality value, Cao
added. From the beginning of the year, prices to Hong Kong have continued to
drop. However, the low price of just over 1,000 yuan will last only until April
10 when Hong Kong will experience its peak period for exhibitions, according to
several local major travel agencies. Local travel agencies have received
notices from Hong Kong that hotel prices will soar and most of the rooms will
have already been booked by next month. Although tour prices will increase,
the number of tourists to Hong Kong will not drop sharply in April, said an
industry analyst. Dragonair announced 600 yuan in discounts next month for
independent tourists, with round-trip airfares plus two-night hotel prices as
low as 2,660 yuan and with 13 four or five-star hotels to choose from. "More
than 1,000 tourists can enjoy our preferential policy," said a spokesman with
Dragonair.
