Free tours help passengers kill time
6/4/2004 17:31
As of April 15, passengers with the China Eastern Airlines who have to
wait for at least five hours to transfer planes in Shanghai will not feel bored,
as they can kill time by touring scenic spots inside the city free of charge,
the Youth Post reported today. Such free inner-city tours will be initiated
at two local airports, and passengers can either book the tours when purchasing
air-tickets or handle the procedures to join the tours at the airports, said Fu
Yusong, vice general manager with the passenger transport office of China
Eastern Airlines. "At the initial period of our services, passengers
transferring places at local airports can enjoy free sight-seeing tours in the
city, such as to the Bund, Oriental Pearl Broadcasting and Television Tower and
Yuyuan Garden, and after the services are officially offered, our travel
itineraries will be expanded to the surrounding scenic spots of the city such as
to Zhouzhuang water town," Fu pointed out. "For those waiting for
plane-transference for a short period of time, we will show them around the
special airport facilities to satisfy their curiosity," he added. For
example, passengers from Harbin to Hong Kong via Shanghai cannot take two
flights at the same day, and the flights from Shanghai to Paris launch at 11
p.m. The number of passengers transferring planes at two local airports has
already exceeded 10,000 every month, but many of them have to wait at airport
lounges due to unfamiliarity with local transportation. The China Eastern
Airport has currently offered the services at all its business outlets
nationwide, with at least ten people to form a tour
group.
