Suzhou tour prices remain stable in May
12/4/2004 17:33
Trips to Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, won't see a sharp increase in the
weeklong May Day holiday, which starts May 1, according to local tour
agencies. The agencies were responding to local concerns of cost increases
after the Suzhou pricing authority's latest unveiling of a plan to raise ticket
prices to eight parks in the city which are listed as World Cultural
Heritage. The price increase is aimed at protecting the parks better by
reducing the pressures of tourists, according to the Suzhou tourism
authority. The move has had a huge influence on Shanghainese tourists,
because Suzhou, a neighboring city to Shanghai, is the top short tourist
destination for local people. As planned, the ticket prices will double this
year and increase by 30 percent every year from 2005. But the price hike will
not take effect until early June, officials with Shanghai Dazhong International
Travel Service said after consulting the Suzhou Pricing Bureau. The new
price policy will mainly target individual tourists rather than
travel-agency-organized tourist groups. 1. Individual tourists account 1/8
of the total number, Suzhou tourism authority said. OR 2. Tourist groups
count for only one-eighth of the total number, Suzhou tourism
which one
is right? ? It is common practice for tour agencies usually to be given
discounts on ticket prices for group tours they have
organized.
