City regulates overseas business tours
15/4/2004 17:34

Shanghai will regulate overseas business tours of investigation in order to put a lid on illegal operations, said the spokesman with the Shanghai Tourism Administrative Commission yesterday.
The regulations will make a distinction between business tours of investigation and general overseas tours by specifying in detail the contents and purposes of business tours. Business tours should be relevant to the applicants'industries, and applicants must display official invitation from their partners.
The major difference between business tours and general tours is that the Shanghai Tourism Administrative Commission will not entertain complaints from those on overseas business tours of investigation after they return to the city, said an industry analyst.
The legislation is part of an on-going plan to improve the local overseas tourism market, said the industry analyst. The move will crack down on illegal foreign firms engaging in tourism operations without government approval; on foreign firms illegally engaging in tourism operations; on foreign firms illegally organizing overseas package tours for Chinese citizens and intermediate agencies illegally engaging in overseas tour business.
The move will also get rid of travel agencies engaging in illegal emigration and labor exports, or those engaging in overseas tour business without approval, and organizing tours to destinations Chinese citizens are not allowed to visit.
