The debut of faster trains has encouraged more locals to travel by
train recently, even though there are still two weeks to the weeklong May Day
holiday, the Laodong Daily reported today. According to the Shanghai Railway
Travel Service Co Ltd, more than 4,500 tickets have been sold for ten special
tourist trains from April 23 to May 31, with more than 30 railway routes proving
very popular for the upcoming May Day holiday. "We have opened several new
tourist routes, such as to Quzhou and Wuyuan, but are keeping such original
popular scenic spots as Wuyishan Mountain and Huangshan Mountain," said Xu
Dinghai, general manager with the Shanghai Railway Travel Service Co Ltd. A
holiday train to Jinggangshan Mountain will start on May 3, and special
long-distance tourist trains to Zhangjiajie, Guiyang and Guilin will start on
May 10 and 21, Xu added.
