Northern European tours attractive, but expensive
23/4/2004 17:36

Although expensive, package tours to North Europe are arousing interest from local travel-buffs, the Shanghai Morning Post reported yesterday.
According to local travel agencies, the ten-day package tour to Northern Europe will be around 20,000 yuan (US$2,400), and the eight-day tour no less than 17,000 yuan.
After the opening of the 12 European Union countries to Chinese citizens, Northern European countries are scrambling to promote their regions to Shanghai.
Among the five countries, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Norway, only Norway hasn't as yet signed a tourism memo with China. "However, it will not affect our overall itinerary designs for the North European region," said a spokesman with a local travel agency.
Transportation costs to the five North European countries will reach up to 300 euros (nearly 3,000 yuan), accounting for nearly half of the total tour prices, said an industry analyst.
Moreover, accommodation and food costs in North European countries are higher than those in the South and West European nations such as Germany and Spain, so the total tour prices are higher, he pointed out.
The seven-day tour to Germany, to start next month, only costs 8,888 yuan.
