Japan woos Chinese students
16/6/2004 17:40
From now on, Chinese elementary and middle school students studying or
traveling in Japan will be exempted from the 230 yuan (US$28) visa fees,
according to the Japanese Embassy in China yesterday, the Beijing Morning Post
reported today. The exemption is part of a move by Japan to increase
exchanges among Asian young people. According to statistics, fewer than 800
Chinese elementary and middle school students studied or traveled in Japan last
year. The Japanese travel industry has targeted this potential market by
offering streamlined operations, such as simplifying the visa procedures for
Chinese students, to enticing more people to travel there. This summer, a six
or seven-day tour of study and travel in Japan will cost 6,000-9,000
yuan.
