The peak period for rail ticket sales during the upcoming National Day
holiday has arrived. Nearly all tickets were sold out for some itineraries by
September 30, the Shanghai Evening Post reported today.
"Yesterday morning,
many people crowded into our sales office, and we had to start sales half an
hour before schedule", said a salesperson at the rail ticket sales outlet on
Beijing Road E. "We also added three sales windows, each with eight to ten
people waiting in queues, and in less than one hour, two windows were closed as
the tickets were sold out", he indicated. He also mentioned that this sales
boom is expected to last for several days to come.
Most tickets from
September 27 to 30 have been sold out, especially for long itineraries to places
such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Wuhan, Changsha, Qingdao and Changchun.
The local railway department has introduced more short-haul trains to
Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wuxi, Nanjing, Huangshan Mountain and Wenzhou from
September 27 to October 8.
As tickets can only be sold at a maximum of ten
days in advance, this sales boom will last for the coming several days, said an
industry analyst.
