More than 300 million Chinese people are expected to travel by passenger cars in the forthcoming National Day holiday, eastday.com reported today.
All domestic highway transportation departments are gearing up for the travel boom.
A total of 312.5 million Chinese people are expected to travel by passenger cars during the weeklong National Day holiday. Highway transportation is expected to peak on October 1, 2, 6 and 7, with daily passenger flows of 46 million persons in 2.2 million passenger cars.

A growing number of Chinese people will travel to central cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Hangzhou. Many travelers are opting to drive their own cars to the suburban areas.
Transportation departments are strengthening security inspections on both passenger cars and highways, with overloaded vehicles detained at the inspection station. Patrols will be enhanced on high-risk highway sections, especially where landslides are possible.
Chinese cities and provinces also raised the percentage of luxury passenger cars to popular scenic spots such as Huangshan Mountain, Taishan Mountain and Jiuzhaigou Valley to more than 80 percent, as part of an initiative to offer better services for travelers.
