A growing number of vacationers and persons returning home have driven up
airfares ahead of the National day holiday, the Beijing Youth Post reported
today.
Because the Middle Autumn Festival, which falls on September 28 this
year, is very close to the National Day holiday, passenger volumes in aviation
centers such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou are expected to be much higher
than last year.
Many passengers travel ahead of the scheduled holiday
period, so that the peak period for air-ticket bookings has already arrived. As
a result, airfares are increasing every day, with no airfare discounts available
for some flights.
However, according to the Ministry of Railways, train
ticket prices during the forthcoming National Day holiday will not increase. A
total of 37.7 million passengers are expected to travel by train during the
weeklong National Day holiday, with the peak of 4.25 million passengers
predicted for October 1.
There is enough supply of passenger car tickets
during the holiday, and all the domestic long-distance passenger transportation
firms are gearing up for the travel boom, enabling passengers to buy the tickets
24 to 48 hours ahead of schedule.
