For security concerns, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)
decided to suspend the operations of CRJ regional flights as of 0:00 yesterday,
today's Youth Post reported.
The decision was made after the Bombardier
CRJ-200 aircraft with the China Eastern Airlines crashed into a lake in Inner
Mongolia shortly after taking off from Baotou last Sunday, killing all 47
passengers and six crew members aboard.
In most cases, it is impossible to
suspend the operations of all the similar aircrafts just because of one
accident, said a senior official with the CAAC. "Our decision aims at
strengthening security inspection of aircrafts, and whether CRJ aircrafts will
resume operation will depend on the results of our investigations," the official
said.
Operations of five Bambardier aircrafts with the Shanghai Airlines and
five with China Eastern Airlines have currently all be suspended, with the
corresponding flights cancelled.
For the time being, no other aircrafts have
yet replaced the Bambardier ones, most of which flying from Shanghai to Yunnan,
Baotou, Yanji and Changzhi, according to local air-ticketing
institutes.
