Researchers in Shanghai have developed China-patented metro trains which will
probably see commercial use beginning in 2006, according to Tongji
University.
Since last September, Tongji's rail transportation research
center has been cooperating with the Shanghai Electric Group on a train
development program. Progress is reported to be smooth.
The China-patented
technology, which is more adapted to the country's conditions, is expected to
reduce the production costs of the trains, researchers said. Trains
currently running on China's rail lines are imported or domestically produced
products based on foreign technologies.
