For a relaxed tour or romantic honeymoon at the beach, many travel-buffs will
think of the Maldives first. Now they can have a second choice, and for a lower
cost.
The Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of the Berjaya Group of
Companies, a public listed Malaysian conglomerate, is offering a seven-day tour
to the Redang Island of Malaysia. In cooperation with the Shanghai New Comfort
Travel Company, they plan to claim a share of Shanghai's leisure tour
market.
During the seven-day tour, on the second day and third night,
travelers will stay at the renowned 152-room Berjaya Redang Beach Resort. The
resort, located on a beautiful beachfront, has a restaurant, meeting and
conference facilities.
An archipelago off the East Coast of Malaysia, Redang
has been Malaysia's premier marine park since 1994.
Travelers will also
visit famous scenic spots in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca.
The package, which
allows visitors to travel on their own for two days, is priced at only about
4,150 yuan (US$500), about half of the price of a tour to the Maldives, said Cao
Lili, spokeswoman with the Shanghai New Comfort Travel Company, adding that the
tour is expected to be a hit with the local market.
To date, Berjaya Hotels
& Resorts operates 18 local and international hotels and resort condos. With
resorts and hotels in Mauritius, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and London, the group has
enjoyed a growing international presence.
