The growing price of
tickets to such Beijing sights as the the Summer Palace, the Great Wall and six
other famous sights, will reduce the number of tourists from Shanghai to
Beijing, the Youth Daily reported yesterday, citing Shanghai travel agencies.
The agencies felt that since nearly half the travelers are middle-aged or
elderly people, they would be highly sensitive to the price changes.
The
spokesman for one agency said that tour costs were very dependent on the price
of these tickets. "The profits of travel agencies are very small, only 2 or 3
percent. It's hard for us to afford the price increases."
The price of
tickets to Beijing's sights will go up from 175 yuan to 310 yuan in the slow
season and from 250 to 430 in peak
periods.
