With the Spring Festival, traditionally a peak travel period, just two weeks
away, the travel market has been heating up, particularly with such domestic
destinations as Hainan Island, the Eastday.com reported.
A five-day travel
package from Beijing to the south China resort has soared by nearly 2,000 yuan,
or 40 percent, from last year to around 7,000 yuan (US$846). The price
only covers air tickets and hotels, but is exclusive of admission tickets and
local traffic fares.
Other destinations such as to Beihai, south China, and
Wuyishan, southeast China's Fujian Province, have also seen price increases
ranging from 300 to 500 yuan.
The prices increased following the deadly
tsunami that hit Southeast Asian resorts last December 26. The catastrophe
has forced Chinese tourists back to domestic destinations, and as well has
attracted more overseas travelers to China as an alterantive, according to Zhang
Lingjie, assistant to general manager with the inbound tour department of China
International Tour Service.
