A special tour to
Africa promoted by the Qatar Airways, one of the three five-star airlines in the
world, during the recently concluded World Travel Fair 2005 is attracting the
attention of both travel agencies and tourists. In consideration of the
cooler attitude to tours to the Southeast Asian countries hit by tsunamis, and
the open policy on tourism of most African countries, we decided to develop new
routes from Shanghai to Egypt, South Africa and Jordan with the cooperation of
several local travel agencies, explained Yan Jie, director of Qatar Airways
Shanghai Office. Yan also revealed that the first departure date is February,
when prices would be reduced by 10-percent. A 16-day tour from South Africa
to Zimbabwe to Kenya is priced at above 30,000 yuan (US$3627.56), while a 10-day
from South Africa to Zimbabwe is over 20,000 yuan. China's signing of MOUs
with eight African countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Tanzania,
Tunis, Zambia and Zimbabwe, also makes in convenient for locals to
travel.
