Shanghai General Bus Station opened today on a trial basis, as its first
cross-province bus service set off at 5.50 a.m. for Qidong, Jiangsu
Province. The newly completed 750 million yuan (US$90.6 million) bus
terminal claims to be the biggest in Asia.
The last shuttle service on today,
the first day of this year's spring travel peak, will leave at 9.05 p.m. for
Lishui, Zhejiang Province.
During the trial operation, a daily 100 buses
will depart from this terminal. In the Spring Festival period, still two
weeks ahead, additional services will be provided, road traffic authority
said.
A pilot six of the 11 bus ticket selling points in the bus station are
currently in use. They are connected with the city's long-haul bus ticket
electric selling platform.
Passengers can also buy railway tickets here,
where tickets can be purchased up to four days ahead of the departure time.
