Travel prices have returned to normal after plunging by half from the levels
during the weeklong Spring Festival holiday, a travel peak which ends on
Tuesday, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
For example, the price of a
five-day tour to Hainan Island offered at Shanghai Travel Service has slid to
2,050 yuan (US$248) from the peak 4,800 yuan, while the cheapest Hainan tour
priced at 920 yuan has returned to the catalog.
On the outbound tour market,
the route to Sabah, Brunei, has plummeted around 4,000 yuan to around the normal
price of 5,000 yuan and the travel to Australia could save the cost by some
5,000 yuan.
Industry insiders attributed the price drops to air ticket price
falls. Tickets on some routes are offered on discounts of up to 70 percent
starting this week, according to Zhang Zhengyong, secretary to general manager
of Shanghai Air Holidays, a leading travel agency in the city.
Market
analysts expect the lowering tour prices to lead to another round of travel
boom, particularly in March. Hainan, Kunming, Guilin and Kunming will
probably become the hottest choices for inbound tours while Hong Kong, Macau and
Nepal the popular routes for outbound tourists.
But industry insiders caution
tourists to make sure of the service standards before embarking on the cheap
routes, the low prices of which could be provided at the expense of good quality
service.
