Airfares from Shanghai to other domestic cities began to plummet after the
weeklong Spring Festival holiday, with more discounts offered, today's Shanghai
Morning Post reported.
According to several local air-ticket sales outlets,
except for a few air-tickets from Shanghai to Wuhan and Harbin priced 20 percent
off, most air-tickets to other Chinese cities are to be discounted 40-60 percent
after the holiday.
On the eve of the Chinese lunar New Year, air-tickets
from Shanghai to Beijing were sold at 45 percent off, 720 yuan (US$86.7)
including the airport construction fee. But after the holiday, the airfare is
now 60 percent off, only 620 yuan. Seventy-percent discounts are being
offered on air-tickets from Beijing to Shanghai, as well as on the 1,890 yuan
airfares from Shanghai to Sanya, after the holiday.
Big discounts are mainly
provided for tourism itineraries. More passengers return to Shanghai from the
sixth to ninth day of the Chinese lunar New Year, while only a few leave from
Shanghai, so air-carriers are offering more discounts to attract passengers,
said an industry analyst.
