Air tickets have plunged sharply as ticket offices are adopting a low-price
strategy to boost passenger volume, in response to their business shrinking
after the holiday travel peak ended, today's Laodong Daily
reported.
Discounts of up to 60 percent are being offered on most domestic
routes to and from Shanghai, compared with the zero price cuts made during
Spring Festival. Discounts on some routes, like Beijing to Shanghai, rose
to 75 percent, resulting in an unbelievably low round-trip ticket price of just
630 yuan(US$76).
Beyond Shanghai, the ticket price-cutting wave is sweeping
nationwide, industry insiders noted. Guangzhou, capital of South China's
Guangdong Province, is just one example where tickets are generally selling at
about half their normal price, while discounts on flights between Guangzhou and
Sanya, a key doorway to Hainan Island, can shoot up to 81 percent.
Price
cuts on early day and late night flights are deeper than on those between 8 am
and 8 pm, insiders also said.
