The first zero-tariff batch of Taiwan fruits will be on display at the
Shanghai Exhibition Center from July 18 to 20, according to the Shanghai
Agricultural Commission yesterday.
At the exhibition, people can purchase
eight varieties of Taiwan fruits, such as mangos, pineapples, carambolas, guavas
and wax apples.
The exhibition, covering 280 booths in three halls, will
also feature farm products produced in 15 Chinese cities and provinces using
seeds from Taiwan, along with the fruit being introduced from Taiwan.
A
historic high of between 1,700 and 2,000 tons of Taiwan fruits are expected to
be sold in Shanghai this year, predicted Yuan Yaxiang from the Shanghai Fruit
Trade Association.
However, with tariffs and transportation costs, Taiwan
fruit is still expensive to most residents. With no tariffs, their prices will
plunge by 30-40 percent, said an industry analyst.
