A store featuring Hong-Kong and Macau-made products will debut in downtown
Shanghai next month, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
HK:M mall, the
only such shopping center in Shanghai, will open its second store in Sendnes
department store on prime East Nanjing Road, the report said, citing the mall's
general manager Jin Chenglong.
A first group of nearly 20 brands covering
clothing and food will be gathered in the 1,000-square-meter business space,
with both retail and wholesale available, Jin said.
"If the downtown store
turns out to be a success, HK:M plans to introduce more Hong Kong and Macau
brands to Shanghai and to use the local store as a transit center to expand into
the Yangtze River Delta area," he added.
HK:M was established last year as a
commitment under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership
Agreement (CEPA).
Describing CEPA as a good idea to encourage business
exchanges between Hong Kong and Macau and China's mainland, Jin pointed out
there is a lot of preparatory work to do before making it a success.
One task
is to prevent counterfeit goods from flooding the market and protect brand
images, he noted.
He said the mall has joined with Hong Kong's production
authority to develop anti-copying patents to help shoppers identify genuine
products.
