The Shanghai Kedi Convenience Stores Company Ltd, one of the city's leading
24-hour convenience chains, is offering own-label food with Korean
characteristics to improve its competitive edge, eastday.com reported
today.
Not only in Shanghai but in the wider-world as well, the number of
convenience stores has reached saturation-level, leading to fierce competition
and the need for brand-differentiation, with each chain trying to develop
distinctive lines.
After market research and trials, Kedi is offering
breakfast, lunch and dinner with a Korean touch. "We have offered more than 200
own-brand commodities to cater to Chinese, Western and Korean tastes, and more
are expected next year," said a spokesman with the company.
Domestic
convenience stores are busy developing their own brands to improve their
competitiveness, said an industry analyst.
