Local residents are expected to spend an average of 2,500 yuan (US$309) per
household for the upcoming Spring Festival holiday which begins on January 29,
according to a survey jointly conducted by the social research center of the
Jiefang Daily and EMR Market Research Co Ltd.
Fruit, candies, tonics,
cigarettes, wine and flowers are proving the most popular gifts for the holiday,
with more than 70 percent of respondents intending to give fruit and candies.
Seeking healthy as opposed to luxury goods has become the trend in selecting
holiday gifts, a survey analyst explained.
Among those who plan to travel
over the holiday, 66.7 percent will go on domestic tours, with 41.7 percent to
tour within the city.
Regarding holiday budgets, 33.3 percent of respondents
plan to spend between 1,000 and 2,000 yuan, and 25 percent to spend less than
1,000 yuan. Most unmarried interviewees plan to spend between 1,000 and 2,000
yuan, while the majority of married people will spend either less than 1,000
yuan or between 2,000 and 3,000 yuan.
Some 57.4 percent of respondents plan
to spend more than 1,000 yuan on their traditional family meal on New Year's
Eve, with 79 percent to eat either at their own, their parents or their friends'
homes, while 21 percent will dine out.
Locals don't plan to spend much on
entertainment, with nearly 60 percent planning to spend less than 200 yuan, 81.9
percent less than 500 yuan and 7 percent to spend more than 1,000 yuan.
