Shanghai's sugar prices have soared by around 10 percent in the past month,
leading to price rises increases of in other sugar-savvy food products, today's
Youth Daily reported.
The rRetail price has risen from 3.58 yuan (43 US
cents) per kilogram to 3.92 yuan in August, according to data of from the
Shanghai Commercial Information Center indicates.
The wWholesale price has
also undergone a jump from 3,100 yuan per ton during the same period a year ago
to the current 3,360 yuan.
The rises increases have pushed up the prices of
some heavy sugar-ingredient food products with heavy sugar
contents.
The Pprice of rice-inserted sweeat lotus roots with rice, one
of locals' favorite snack for example, has climbed from 15 yuan per kilogram to
16 yuan.
Despite that, local candies will not stage experience an immediate
price rise, since since the Shanghai sugar industry association doesn't plan to
raise the sugar product prices, according to Guan Sheng Yuan (Group) Co Ltd,
producer of the White Rabbit Creamy Candy.
That's partly because the current
prices for industry use were approved by the pricing authority in 2001 when the
prices were already higher than the existing levelpresently.
On the other
handAs well, the sugar demand is not expected to changesharply jump after the
price rise increase owing to people's diet habit changesbecause people¡¯s eating
habits have changed, according to industry analysts.
