Bell of the yogurt battle rings

In preparation for the upcoming "Golden Week" in the National Day holiday, all yogurt brands in Shanghai have prepared for the start of a sales promotion battle, Youth Daily reported.

According to the Bright Dairy & Food Co., Ltd. (Bright Dairy), Beijing Bright Dairy has just increased their flavored yogurt throughput per year to 30,000 tons, which indicates that Bright Dairy is ready for a promotional battle during the "Golden Week".

The total yogurt sales nation wide hit 230,000 tons in 2003.  Although the yearly output is just seven to eight percent of the total dairy products output, it keeps increasing by 40 percent each year, greatly exceeding the percentage increase of milk, which is around 30.  As a result, many companies in dairy products around the country are starting to produce and sell yogurt.
