An underground
shopping center is planned for the South Railway Station currently under
construction in southern Shanghai, today's Youth Daily reported. Most of the
120,000 square meters under the railway station will be for stores, though
40,000 square meters will be reserved for underground parking and 20,000 square
meters for passageways. Mainly upmarkets will occupy the space, the report,
which was presented at a promotional meeting for the station, indicated.
Officials hoped the shopping center would improve the commercial services at
the railway traffic hub. As well as restaurants, and entertainment
facilities, officials may have supermarkets and hypermarkets join the center,
considering the large residential areas around the railway
station.
