Global retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will open its first store in
Shanghai by the middle of next year. The chain has already begun the recruitment
of managers, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
"We have more than 20
mid-level management posts available, such as department managers, and
supervisors," said Wang Pei, vice president with Wal-Mart China Co Ltd. "We
usually transfer personnel from our own company rather than recruit from
outside, but to open business in Shanghai, part of the management team should be
recruited locally," she pointed out.
The training will begin after the
managers are recruited, but the recruiting of regular employees will start by
the end of this year, she added.
A Wal-Mart store usually needs about 500
employees, with 20 percent of them managers.
"We do not have market
domination as our final goal, but we will offer low prices to attract
customers," Wang stressed.
Wal-Mart has 3,627 stores in the United States,
and 39 stores in China.
