Five years after the last price increase, fast-food restaurant chains
Kentucky Fried Chicken and Pizza Hut this week raised prices of some menu items
in their Chinese outlets, today's Eastday.com reported. The price of a family
set package, previously 58 yuan (US$7), increased 1 yuan, while those for two
other set packages, two vegetable soups and a salad product were increased by
0.5 yuan each. Pizza prices at Pizza Hut have also increased 3
yuan. Noting that the price increases are to offset the rising ingredient and
labor costs, KFC and Pizza Hut, both operated by Yum! Brands, Inc., said these
increases are so small that they won't drive away customers or even raise
attentions from diners. Few diners at the two chain's restaurants yesterday
had noticed the price increases when interviewed, the Eastday.com report
said. KFC operates 118 restaurants in Shanghai while Pizza Hut has 37.
